Puccini Museum - Birthplace of Giacomo Puccini

The birthplace of Maestro Giacomo Puccini is located on the second floor of an ancient building located in the heart of the historic centre of Lucca,

Giacomo was born here on December 22, 1858. His family's ancestors lived in Lucca as early as the 17th century and the family had settled in this house since 1815.

It was in the rooms of his birthplace that the composer lived the years of his childhood and early youth, and here he began his first musical studies. Although having chosen other villas and buildings for his residence, the master Puccini was always tied to this house, so much so that he wanted to keep the property.

The birthplace was then donated by the composer's heirs to the Municipality of Lucca, and was transformed into a museum in 1979, then restored in the early 2000s. The house appears today as it did at the time when young Giacomo lived there; the original furnishings are preserved together with objects that belonged to the musician (including the Steinway & Sons piano on which he composed the Turandot), substantial documentary collections with autographed scores of early compositions, letters, photos, sketches, and memorabilia. Some stage costumes and family memories complete the setting.

The museum is continuously enriched thanks to targeted purchases and the generosity of private individuals who donate or make available relics and precious documents connected to the life of the master and to his immortal works.
